There is often a common misconception that healthy food is bland or doesn’t taste good. With all the flavorful over-processed foods that “look” exciting, it can be challenging to get kids to eat something like Swiss Chard. It doesn’t sound appealing to some; however, make the right dish with the right ingredients, and your little ones might give certain veggies or healthy foods more of a chance.
Kids like it when food is fun and exciting, so let’s create a healthy palate.
Turkey burgers
Turkey burgers are an excellent replacement for beef. The recipe we shared has various spices, but you can keep it simple with a bit of sea salt and pepper. Most kids like burgers; while it doesn’t taste like your average double patty with cheese, it’s delicious and a winner at dinner. Swap out the traditional deep-fried fries and go for crispy-baked wedges instead.
Chicken & Veggies Bowl
It’s colorful, fragrant, and delicious. The chicken provides a lean source of protein, and the vegetables are loaded with nutrients. Swap the chicken out with firm tofu for a vegetarian or vegan spin on the recipe. The ingredients work well together, but there’s room to make the recipe your own.
Baked Quesadillas
Sonja & Alex from a couple's cooks shared their healthy version of a well-known and popular dish, the quesadilla. You can use whatever fillings you and your little like, but the couple shares some excellent ideas. The crispy texture is incredible.
Chocolate-Peanut butter Energy Bars
Chocolate, for breakfast? Well, yes. This energy recipe has healthy ingredients that are filling, delicious, and full of vitamins and minerals. Serve them as breakfast or a snack. Who know eating healthy could taste so good?
Smoothies
Smoothies make a refreshing drink / snack. They’re filling, full of vital nutrients, and delicious. If you find it challenging to get your little ones to eat greens like spinach, smoothies are an excellent way to sneak them in.
Baked Chicken Tenders
Kids love finger foods. In fact, most people like them. These baked chicken tenders are just as delicious as deep-fried tenders; with one huge difference, there’s no need to be concerned about the amount of unhealthy fat.
Cauliflower Tots
This is a favorite for kids and adults. After all, cauliflower transformed into tots is an elevated version of Tater Tots. These bite-sized veggie tots are full of nutrients and an excellent way to try new things with traditional dishes.
The world is full of flavor and variety. Getting kids to make healthy food choices can be a struggle, it’s a battle for some of us adults as well. Let’s lead by example and find fun, flavorful ways to help our children, and ourselves stay happy, healthy, and well-fed!
