First Things First: Love Yourself Momma!

First Things First: Love Yourself Momma!

Posted by Lizeth Cuara on

Loving ourselves can be one of the most challenging tasks some of us face. There are many reasons we go through this, but we must break through and love ourselves to be the best momma we can be. Right?

Self-love is a simple concept, but in reality, it’s a bit more complicated and is often misunderstood. It’s more than a bubble bath once a week or a makeover. Loving yourself means you’re nourishing your body with healthy food, good sleeping habits, and self-care.

Not loving yourself leaves your self-esteem low, and it becomes easy to pick up bad habits. We can’t always choose our surroundings, but when we love ourselves, we do our best to make our life the best they can be.

Self-love is often misunderstood and considered selfish. It’s not! Having a good relationship with yourself allows all other connections to improve. It allows us to be better examples for our children because we’re their role models, and they imitate what they see us do. If they see us love ourselves, it will help them love themselves.

How To Love Yourself

It starts with accepting our past failures and success. We have to appreciate the good we’ve done and learn from our mistakes. Getting over things can sometimes require forgiveness, which can be a difficult task. However, it is incredibly uplifting when it’s accomplished.

We hear people say that to love others; we must love ourselves. That can be a hard pill to swallow; however, we don’t know that it genuinely works that way. That being said, loving ourselves does help us love others in a better way and teach our little ones to follow in those footsteps.

Forgiveness is essential for self-love. We know some choices are complicated, even more so when we have kids. Going back to work after you’ve had a baby is an incredibly difficult decision, but some of us have no choice. Forgive yourself for making a choice that made you feel bad, especially when the choice was made so that you and your children can have food on the table, the things they need, and some of what they want.

We lead by example! So, why not set the example of love? Our children learn so much from us. When they see us take care of our physical and mental health, it guides them to do the same. If your little ones see you self-shaming, they will pick up on that behavior and do the same thing. That is genuinely heartbreaking.

It’s all about the little things we do that add up. Drink enough water, take a walk, read a good book, fall asleep to soft relaxing music, and if you want to go to work, so be it! As your child grows up seeing you do what’s best for you and the family, they tend to do the same thing. Our sons and daughters should grow up knowing how to love themselves and others, which means WE have to show them how.
