Plus Size Pregnancy 101

Plus Size Pregnancy 101

We think the world needs more plus size pregnancy information that’s full of positive resources and plus size support.

Before we dig in we want to say that being plus size and pregnant can come with some increased risks. However, people of ALL sizes have healthy and successful outcomes.

Pregnancy comes with many questions. One plus size pregnancy question we see often is, how far into the pregnancy before a plus size woman looks pregnant. Unfortunately, that answer isn’t the same for everyone. Your body will grow to suit you and your baby.

  • Your belly might look more like the letter B than D, and that’s completely normal for a plus size pregnancy.
  • Talk to your doctor for your specific weight-goals. Typically, fifteen to 25 pounds of weight should be gained during a healthy pregnancy. Plus size women should only gain 11 to 20 pounds.
  • Talk to a registered dietician to get personalized and unique nutritional standards and goals.
  • Sex during pregnancy can be intense or a bore! Some women experience a heightened sex drive while they’re pregnant, and that’s normal. Other ladies, have no desire or interest at all, that’s completely normal too. Enjoy yourself, do what’s safe, and do what feels good.
  • Try and find a doctor or OBGYN that works with and is size-friendly. This can be a massive game-changer for having a healthy, happy, plus size pregnancy.
  • Many labor positions work well for women of all sizes. You’ll discover what feels more comfortable and functional to you. A pendulum belly or plus size hanging belly, you will want to avoid spending too much time on your hands and knees. That position can lead to a slowing down of labor progression.

 Plus Size Maternity Shopping

The world is full of plus size people who live normal lives and needs. There is no shortage of plus size maternity clothing and gear. Someone out there has exactly what you require waiting for you. You can perform a simple search including the phrase “plus size maternity clothes” and a wealth of products will pop up!

I might not be pregnant at the moment, but some of those clothes look so incredibly comfortable! You’ll even have some options whether you want to hide your baby bump for a while longer or show it to the world!

We suggest considering investing in a maternity belly band for post-pregnancy, as well as the postpartum period as well. Carrying around extra weight in the belly can be tough whether you’re plus size or tiny! Having something to help carry the load helps keep your posture on point, which means a little less backache for you later.

We hope you have a safe and successful plus size pregnancy. Stay in touch with your medical professional and stay healthy. Watch what you eat because that little life growing inside will get whatever you get! That could be both good and bad! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
