Balancing Exercise With A New Baby

Balancing Exercise With A New Baby

Posted by Lizeth Cuara in

Babies can really turn everything upside down! Whether you’ve been planning to have a baby or it came as a surprise, life gets turned upside down when a little one comes along. That’s not all bad; there’s so much joy it’s overwhelming (until they become toddlers, then it gets tough, lol).

Anyway, you might not feel like diving right back into your fitness routine as soon as your baby is born. However, it’s important to incorporate a little movement into your daily routine. Don’t worry—we’ll help you find ways to balance exercise with having a new baby in your life.

Prioritizing Our Health and Fitness

Being a parent makes it really easy to put ourselves last. However, as parents, we must make health and fitness a priority. Our kids depend on us!

Start each week by sitting down and creating a weekly workout schedule. You can be flexible, as long as you put in the effort. Setting aside time can motivate us and help us stay focused on making progress.

Wear the Right Clothes

On the days you plan to work out, get dressed for the gym as soon as you get out of bed. Dressing for the occasion is a simple way to set yourself up for success. Putting on your workout clothes helps get your mind in gear. It’s the first step toward the right mindset.

Even if you’re working out at home—and maybe especially if you’re working out at home—it can be easy to just lie back in bed when we’re still in our pajamas.

Work Out With Your Little One

Jogging strollers are a great way to get some good cardio exercise. You don’t have to jog—a brisk walk works just as well. It gets both of you out in the fresh air, taking in the sights and sounds, and getting some exercise. It’s essential stimulation for both mom and baby.

HIIT

High-intensity workouts are an effective and efficient way to get a good workout in while caring for a baby. Most HIIT workouts can be completed in 20 minutes or less, which is perfect for nap time.

Just Move

Being physically active counts as exercise. You don’t have to stick to traditional sit-ups and push-ups. Put on some soft music and dance, spend 15 to 20 minutes jumping rope lightly, or work in the garden. You can head to the park with your jogging stroller and use the equipment or hiking trails to exercise; this is also a great chance to meet other parents.

Mommy & Me Fitness Classes

Check your area to see if any "mommy and me" fitness classes are offered. Good places to look include gyms, the YMCA, and local groups that meet privately. You and your little one can grow in various ways through these group exercises. The opportunity to meet other kids and parents is a healthy benefit as well.

It is both possible and essential that we prioritize our health and fitness as parents. Our children will need us for the rest of their lives, so we should be there for them and in good shape for as long as we can.
