So, We Don't Have Enough Time? How To Overcome The Excuses To Not Work Out

Let’s face it, as humans, we’re full of excuses. Especially when it comes to working out. We always seem to find something going on that keeps us from getting the physical activity we need; this seems even more accurate for parents.

As parents, there’s already so much to do. Still, we’ll help you figure out how to overcome those pesky excuses and reach those better body goals.

Top 10 Excuses We Make & How To Drop Them

  1. I’m Tired: Contrary to popular belief, getting ourselves into a healthy workout routine will actually give us more natural energy. We’ll feel more awake and alert, and we’ll sleep better.
  2. I’m Already Too Out of Shape: How can we get into shape if we never take a step in the right direction? Sure, it’ll be challenging at first, but the further we get, the easier it will be. The day will eventually come that we’re more in shape than ever, and we feel like working out.
  3. I Left My Headphones At Home: This is not a joke. Many people won’t or don’t want to work out without listening to music. If it’s the noise of the gym or the sounds of home, take a walk or go swimming at the pool. Music isn’t necessary for either of those things. Or, ensure you’ve got what makes you feel comfortable, so there is no excuse.
  4. We Hate The Idea of A Gym: Before gyms were invented, people exercised where ever they wanted to. The gym can be intimidating if we don’t know how to use the equipment. No need to hate the gym; you can ask an instructor to explain how things work and how to use it.
  5. I Don’t Have A Babysitter: Why not get the kids involved? It’s a healthy way to use up some of that energy. If they’re too little to get involved, exercise while they nap.
  6. I Have Too Many Chores: Sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and folding laundry is a bit like exercise. Add some squats in when you can, and you’re good to go.
  7. I Don’t Want To Go Alone: You can try and sign up for different exercise classes and make friends with other members. It can be tough to coordinate schedules with people we know because… life, work, and kids. There are always ways to find others to do things with.
  8. I’m Pregnant: Pregnancy doesn’t stop us from everything. There are exercises specifically designed and targeted for pregnant women. Some activities may have to adjust or altered, but there are ways to do what you need to.
  9. I Don’t Enjoy or Like Exercise: Dancing, walking instead of driving, hiking, and bike riding are forms of exercise. Physical movement makes all the difference. Find things you do like and incorporate fitness in somehow.
  10. I Can’t Afford The Gym or Equipment: We don’t have to have anything special to exercise. In elementary school, we’re all taught basic physical fitness exercises we could do with only our body and a flat surface. Everything else is simply elevated techniques and styles. It’s cool to keep it simple and equally effective.

Making excuses is an easy way to keep us down and potentially at risk of gaining weight or developing health issues. We don’t have to hit the gym 6 days a week and pump iron if we don’t want to. 30 minutes to an hour of physical activity involving our whole body is enough.
