Keep It Chill: Your Baby Needs It

Keep It Chill: Your Baby Needs It

Newborns and children of all ages naturally pick up on the energy around them, especially from their parents or those they spend a lot of time with. When we get tense or scared, so do they. We can’t say that things are any different while the fetus is developing in the womb.

Staying calm and knowing how to cool off when things get too heated will benefit both you and your baby! We know that the excitement of bringing your newborn home will gradually give way to long nights and long days. Feeding, diaper changes, and everything in between keep you busy. It’s normal to experience both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

It can sometimes feel impossible to put your own needs first, Mom! But finding a way to reduce the anxiety and stress that come with being a parent is essential—not only for your mental and physical health, but also for your little one’s well-being. We know there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to dealing with the various emotions that arise after having a baby. Still, there are some simple things worth trying to help reduce feelings of postpartum stress and anxiety.

Chill Vibes

Light some soothing scented candles or something similar. Play music that helps you and the baby relax. Keep the atmosphere relaxed for both of you. If guests drop by and cause too much stressful excitement or bring a tense vibe, ask them to leave and come back later. It’s essential to do what you can for yourself and your baby. Soak in a bubble bath or take a nice hot shower.

Get Moving

We know motherhood can be exhausting, especially when there’s a newborn in the house or multiple children. Adding exercise to the mix may seem counterproductive. Still, as soon as your doctor gives you the green light for physical activity, we suggest you get some. It doesn’t have to be hours at the gym or a workout at all. A walk around the block can do much more for your health than you might think. That said, a few exercises a day can be beneficial. Start with something slow and easy; work your way up to it. Believe it or not, exercise can boost your energy levels and help relieve stress.

Get the Sleep You Need

We know this is much easier said than done. When your baby is napping, you should be too. Honestly, whenever you get the chance to catch up on some sleep, do it! We know there will always be things to do, but you won’t be able to handle them without good mental and physical health. A lack of sleep can make us grumpy and irritable. Sleep deprivation only increases stress, anxiety, crankiness, and irritability. Those of you dealing with postpartum depression or stress don’t need any more on your plate!

Ask for Help

It can be hard for some of us to ask for help when we need it. Please don’t hesitate to ask others for a little help now and then—whether it’s your family, close friends, or your partner. They can help give you a break when you need it, because your health and your baby’s health are the top priority. You don’t need to ask for help all the time, but doing so every once in a while will do you some good.

Don’t Forget Your Hygiene

It can be really easy to forget basic hygiene routines when you’re a new mom. Maybe you’ve asked yourself when was the last time you shaved your legs or even took a shower. It happens more often than most people would like to admit. However, a regular self-care routine can provide mood-boosting benefits that make you feel good!

As parents, we need to recharge and take care of ourselves. Yes, the baby comes first, but you need to make time for yourself to recharge and relax. Your little ones can and will pick up on tension, stress, and anxiety. It can rub off on them and make them feel things they don’t understand. Keep things calm for both you and your little ones as often as possible to keep the positive energy flowing.
