First Things First: Love Yourself Momma!

First Things First: Love Yourself Momma!

Loving ourselves can be one of the most challenging tasks some of us face. There are many reasons why we struggle with this, but we must push through and love ourselves so we can be the best moms we can be. Right?

Self-love is a simple concept, but in reality, it’s a bit more complicated and is often misunderstood. It’s more than just a bubble bath once a week or a makeover. Loving yourself means nourishing your body with healthy food, good sleep habits, and self-care.

Not loving yourself leads to low self-esteem, and it becomes easy to pick up bad habits. We can’t always choose our surroundings, but when we love ourselves, we do our best to make the most of our lives.

Self-love is often misunderstood and seen as selfish. It’s not! Having a healthy relationship with yourself helps improve all your other relationships. It allows us to be better examples for our children because we’re their role models, and they mimic what they see us do. If they see us loving ourselves, it will help them love themselves.

How to Love Yourself

It starts with accepting our past failures and successes. We need to appreciate the good we’ve done and learn from our mistakes. Moving past the past can sometimes require forgiveness, which can be a difficult task. However, it is incredibly uplifting when we achieve it.

We often hear people say that to love others, we must love ourselves. That can be a hard pill to swallow; however, we don’t know for sure if that’s actually how it works. That said, loving ourselves does help us love others better and teach our children to follow in our footsteps.

Forgiveness is essential for self-love. We know that some choices are complicated, especially when we have children. Returning to work after having a baby is an incredibly difficult decision, but some of us have no choice. Forgive yourself for making a choice that made you feel bad, especially when that choice was made so that you and your children could have food on the table, the things they need, and some of the things they want.

We lead by example! So, why not set an example of love? Our children learn so much from us. When they see us taking care of our physical and mental health, it inspires them to do the same. If your little ones see you putting yourself down, they’ll pick up on that behavior and do the same. That’s truly heartbreaking.

It’s all about the little things we do that add up. Drink enough water, take a walk, read a good book, fall asleep to soft, relaxing music, and if you want to go to work, so be it! As your child grows up seeing you do what’s best for you and the family, they tend to follow your example. Our sons and daughters should grow up knowing how to love themselves and others, which means WE have to show them how.
